Natural History Museum well worth it, Science Museum not so much

Well my daughter had a few days off for her birthday so we chose to use the time, with her youngest brother, to travel down to London for the day. She had expressed an interest in visiting the Natural History Museum again so off we went on our early gaunt. Being at the beginning of the line makes it a pretty easy journey right down to Marylebone station.Topping up our Oyster card when there was a faff, however I think we are all ok with it now, what was great though was a London transport online mobile site that tells you where to get on and off the tube to arrive at your destinations, so we did actually arrive with ease to view a major queue. Amazingly just a quick look at the signs did show an alternative entrance which turned out to have NO queue! I have to say The Natural History Museum is a national treasure, just superb. We loved every second, the exhibits are well set out, allow flow of people and there is so much.

This was not however the case for The Science Museum we went to afterwards being only down the road, what a dated awful display. I love Science and this would put so many people off especially the fact to actually see anything interesting you have to fork out £17 each, there were several displays each at this cost which we were not about to pay for having had to pay for travel down to London already. I felt the free section was like going back twenty years, exhibits with labels and not even original ones to look at either. In retrospect we should have then gone to the V and A. However we did misread the information for this and presumed it was a museum where you had to pay to enter but this was only for the Alexander McQueen exhibition and everything else in their VAST display is free. Well at least we can do that next time. We have several things on our list for next time but that is for another blog!!!!

Having come out of the Science museum post haste we then chose to do shopping!! yea......rerouting ourselves to Selfridges and Schuh, one of my nieces designs fantastic clothes one of which had been chosen to front the Schuh campaign, she had noted that it was up on display however I think we missed the boat on that one only to find it later showing in Solihull. Selfridges became our friend as we had another fun run around just looking and lusting after the goods. I did however buy another shirt identical to one I bought last year as it was so fantastic from there however not in the sale : (

Amazingly that took us to the time for leaving for the train..... a lovely short trip......but another in the planning.

Dalyan, Turkey - A quick break with my daughter

My daughter had booked her time off from work some time ago and she was to go with a friend, however a car was needed by her friend and the expense of a holiday became too much so she backed out. My daughter had not had a full on holiday for a while so I said I would come if she wanted as long as she paid her way as she would have done with her friend.

Cost was her limiting factor so a five night break was decided upon in lovely Dalyan, Turkey. This is one of the few places we have ever gone back to. It has changed though. We first went 25 years ago and it was a small fishing village with a few hotels, the lake, the beach, the turtles, the sea, the
river, the mud baths, the Caunos ruins and the amazing Tombs. Every approximate 4 years we have returned to see expansion occur, to my horror last time we went in August to a horribly heaving town with neon lights and booming music, my heart sank as I felt Dalyan had lost its peace. However in the day life returns a little to normal. I just wish some of the towns would survey people before they go too headlong into development to find what the people who holiday their want, do they want a mini Marmaris or is the perfection of Dalyan its beauty and relaxing natural nature. I think they need the brakes put on.

Tourists are having an effect, the reeds are now so much smaller than they used to be, the sea turtles are being fed within the brackish water areas so they are coming up the river nibbling people occasionally, the reeds have been sprayed to reduce nibbling flies however what do the local fauna now feed on? When we first came the bird life was wonderful but now is limited! It may have been better to make Dalyan a more expensive place to visit bringing in the tourists willing to spend more for the quietness, the nature, the ruins and the mud baths......ie less is more.

However we went and had a marvellous time........ the morning walk to a quiet riverside Gozleme eatery, to sit watching boats go by with the tombs on the other side of the river lit up with the morning light was magical. A gorgeous glass of fresh orange juice with a searingly hot banana and chocolate gozleme, yummy.

We love hiring a boat to ourselves, with a little negotiation and finding a smaller fishing boat away from the main area a boat can be had for the whole day. We found one gentleman particularly great last time, his boat was lovely and he suggested lovely ways to pass the time. A little fishing or crabbing, a bit of swimming around the rocks and by the beach, a bit of diving into the lake, a lunch of fresh fish caught moments before, a visit to the Sultinaye and mud baths, an evening returning to the village. We found him again this time and yet again we booked and had a marvellous time.We also decided upon a Jeep safari for a laugh. This involves a trip with others in a jeep that gets water chucked at it by villagers and running through shallow rivers spraying water to drench each other, further along visits to streams, rivers and lakes to dip in and a lovely lunch over a river and under shade. So many laughs, just take a plastic bag for money, phones and cameras!!

Our break of five nights was great...... relaxing, hot ( a holiday that I didn't need a coat for!) and lovely........ thank you Dalyan.

Colour run Saturday (photo heavy : ) )

At the Finishing line
My daughter had seen photos of this last year and was really keen to get involved in 'A Color run' this year, nothing wrong with my spelling that is how it is promoted, so when it was coming to Birmingham she rounded up a couple of her besties and sent off for entry.

Through the post came a Color run T-shirt, headband and tattoo transfers although tutus, socks and other accessories could have been bought!!!!!!

Clean, ready to start the race
As parents we were involved in transport of the highly excitable young ladies and dragged in for taking photos.

As we parked at the NEC you could hear the booming of the music near the start, there were thousands of people: old , young , babies in covered pushchairs, wheel chair participants, families etc. Head dresses galore, weird footwear, fairy wings, and flags a bundle. The over riding thing was everyone was Happy, Happy, Happy.

Coming into the last bend

Fresh and just starting the race
The racers went off in cohorts, so we said goodbye hoping to see the girls around the coarse. Realistically we could only photo after the first colour had been thrown at them as the course wound its way in the distance. At the pink stop they were still full of running, giggles, and energy.

Still breathing
It was our time for food as we had to wait trying to judge the best time to wait at the finishing line.On reflection stand out colours and at least one of them with a phone would have been useful. Yellow, a yellow wig would have been good!!!! We became runner blind. Waves upon waves of runners bedecked in pink, blue, orange and green paint ran towards us all with 'Color run' t-shirts and all with headbands on!!!!! We waited , and waited and still waited then finally a banshee scream from them let us take the action shots they wanted.

The finishing line was breached.

Let the paint fly
Then we descended into the cloud....... a cloud of multicoloured powdered paint. As we searched for them, the girls were given a packet each of paint to throw around.

Just so happy
Thoroughly brilliant. Everyone seemed happy and all for a good cause.

My only recommendation is definitely wear a stand out item, my eyes were literally sore with trying to focus for their group, also if it doesn't get too sweaty or fallen on do take a phone around as that would have helped.

Hysterical

Oops

Exhilarated

Look what you did?
Matching blue hands

Where are you?

Why?
I repeat why?

Happy moments
I can't breath with laughter
Even we got covered
Ready!!!
Wonder what had been said?
Look at the floor!!
Really happy

Selfie time

Just before getting in the car!
